FINCHES
My breeding operation is quite modest. Until recently, I did not even sell any of my birds. I consider every bird in my flock a part of my family and give them the love and attention one would to a beloved pet. Each one gets a name. In the process of naming a new bird I get to know its personality and then search for the name that fits it. The only birds I don't name are those I hope to sell, as I realized that I grew too attached to them when I named them.
I make every effort to give my birds the best possible diet and living conditions, which I describe on the housing & diet page. Once a year, just before I set up breeding pairs, I put them all through the quarantine procedure to be sure they are in optimal health. Each new addition to the flock also goes through this procedure. In addition, I keep breeding records on each bird that lives or is hatched in my bird room. Thus, I can provide you with a certificate of hatch date, as well as the genetic make-up of each bird's parents.
If you are interested in purchasing a bird from me, please e-mail me. I can hold a bird for you with a deposit of 50% of the cost of the bird(s). I also have a waiting list. If you ask to be put on it, I will notify you when I have the particular bird you want available and ask for a deposit to hold the bird for you. I am also more than willing to e-mail a photo of the bird you want and, for those closer, to drive a reasonable distance to deliver a bird. I also provide a bird care guide to those who would like it.
IMPORTANT: I guarantee my birds for 24 HOURS after you receive them. If in that time one dies, I will NOT give you a refund, but give you another bird of similar price when it becomes available. . You must notify me IMMEDIATELY of the death of a bird if you want to receive another bird, otherwise, I will not be able to give you an exchange. Reports of dead birds received after 48 hours will NOT be honored and NO replacement will be given.
SHIPPING: If you really can't find
the bird you are looking for close enough to drive to get it, I am set up
for shipping now. I will NOT ship less than two birds
NOR can I ship when the temperatures fall below 50 degrees or above 90 degrees
at any time day or night. I guarantee live arrival of my birds. If they arrive
dead or are lost, I will replace the birds, but WILL NOT give a refund. However,
you will be responsible for the new shipping costs.
To see how they are shipped, go to this website,
as they've a thorough description with photos of the preparation of the box.
Birds are shipped via Continental Airlines, which only takes one day. Shipping
finches by US mail is illegal right now. A lot of people get by that by saying
the birds are quail or some such small bird. I prefer not to do that. In addition,
it often takes overnight or longer to get the birds to their destination.
I will phone or e-mail you a few days before I plan to ship the birds to confirm
that the day and time is convenient for you. Then I will PHONE once I have
put the birds on the plane. I ask that you phone or e-mail me to confirm that
you have received the birds and that they are in good health. The airlines
is much faster and thus less stressful on the birds. I will REPLACE NO BIRD,
if you do not notify me within 24 HOURS.
Besides the cost of the birds, I charge for the Horizon
shipping box ($20) and handling ($50), which includes getting the birds
used to the Horizon box and the long drive to the airport, plus whatever the
airlines charges. I guarantee live arrival. As I wrote above, I guarantee
the bird for 24 hours after arrival. If you follow the instructions on the
care sheets I send you, you should have no problem with the birds. My stock
is very healthy. I accept checks or PayPal and must have all funds in hand,
checks cleared, before shipping the birds.
Thank you for your interest in my birds! I look forward to hearing from you.
